COPD can impact on everyday life and many people find it difficult to manage. In fact the natural response to breathlessness is to panic. So it is very common for people to feel fed up, frustrated, worried or anxious.
COPD can have a huge impact on people’s life and can be very stressful. It can often feel like life has been turned upside down or as if your life is on pause. Psychologists think about emotional wellbeing as well as physical wellbeing, as we believe they are all related.
We offer:
- Various courses to help manage stress
- Assessment
- Mood and anxiety books specific to COPD
- 1:1 work focused on individual goals
The service provides psychological input and joint work in hospital pulmonary rehab program. As well as specialist support, education and training to other professionals to enable them to understand and work with the emotional needs of our client group.
COPD treatment
Our team may recommend the following for patients and / or family members:
- Talking individually
- Talking in a group
- Self help materials
- Inpatient sessions
If you do have any needs that fall outside of our treatment capabilities we co-ordinate referral to the appropriate services.
How long will treatment last?
We offer up to 12 sessions.
